braille music box
June 2014
22mm copper pipe, phonograph horn, paper, copper joints, glass, wood & music box
dimensions: w 80cm x l 200cm x h 50cm
within this piece of work i converted braille into sound, this was to allow the blind to envisage colour. the braille (list of colours) was arranged on the ‘manuscript’ according to where the colour lies on the electromagnetic spectrum. for example dark blue would be towards the bottom of the musical score, creating a deeper note. the piece was activated by a viewer, through twisting a music box handle, the sound was then amplified through the copper pipe and gramophone horn
